Can you believe its exactly 24 months since we were privileged to enjoy the awesome skills of World no 3 Marwan Elshorbagy and older brother, World no 1 Mohamed Elshorbagy at Truro Squash?

This was a rematch of the 2017 World Championships final and proved equally as exciting (if not quit pressurised) for the actual players! For both it was their second visit at the time to Truro Squash & Leisure Club and they trained our rising juniors and played warm up games with young Ben Thorpe and Ben Angilley before the BIG showdown challenge match itself!

Since that time Marwan had a set back (due to injury) which took him out of the game for a few months and saw his ranking drop below no 20, from where he re-built his career with a 15 month race back up the positions to current no 7. His last event before lock down was a semi-final berth v Ali Farag at Canary Wharf and with all this positive momentum he is surely going to climb much higher when the tour resumes in the Autumn. Marwan aka “The Jackal” is one of the most court-wise and cleverest competitors in the game with a tremendous drive to win, which strangely couples with a super laid-back off court demeanour. Being two years younger than “Elshorbagy senior” he has the time and the willpower to go all the way to the very top in the near future, so stay tuned as the best is yet to come!

Mohamed is already a Squash legend, but also has so much more that he wants to achieve and he is not even 30 years of age! He already has 3 TOC, Qatar classic, and British Open titles to his name, and has enjoyed 44 months over 4 reigns as the World No.1 (and still current) player! He displays a constant desire and clear understanding of how to evolve and continue to improve his game in order to stay at the very top. One of his goals is to accumulate more individual World Championship titles as he has, slightly surprisingly, only taken one to date, and it is hard to imagine a bigger source of motivation to keep up and develop his brutal training regime in order to achieve this! In fact Mohamed goes beyond “motivation” to levels of pure “inspiration” in order to get the best out of himself while playing huge matches - hence the awesome nickname of “The Beast” and “hitting a Beast mode” of physical prowess which nobody else can live with in our sport. His last match before lock down was beating Ali Farag to win Canary Wharf in March and cement the World No.1 spot for the summer. He says “Please take care of yourself in these crazy times” and is clearly a true friend of Truro Squash & Leisure Club!
